Our Mission

To address the root causes and symptoms of poverty and trauma in our City, Reconciliation Services engages with individuals to:

1) Promote dignity by increasing personal well-being

2) Foster healthy community by transforming dividing lines into gathering places

3) Help people advocate for themselves, their families, and their neighbors.

RS has served alongside our neighbors in the urban core of Kansas City, MO, for 30+ years. Desiring to accept the challenge to “love thy neighbor,” we approach each person with dignity and love, seeing them as made in the image of God. Our programs strategically address community needs for affordable food access, safe environments to gather to combat social isolation and build positive community connections, and increased access to social and mental health services that lead to improved health and self-sufficiency.

Guiding Principles:

DIGNITY
each person is worthy of love and respect

COMMUNITY
we are interconnected and created to live in relationship with one another

ADVOCACY
is our response to the call to walk with others on their journey

How We Got Here

For more than 30 years, Reconciliation Services has worked to address the root causes of the economic and racial disparities facing our neighbors. Our starting point for reconciliation has always been simple—food and community.

Why We Are Here

Historic discrimination and disinvestment made Troost Avenue the racial and economic dividing line of our city. As a result, the strength of our neighbors and community remains hidden with thousands of our neighbors struggling to survive and succeed, trapped in poverty and trauma.

Who We Are

Our diverse staff, board, and volunteers work daily to advocate for our neighbors in need and create meaningful community connections that can lead to reconciliation.

This community building work can’t happen without the help of our committed volunteers!
